Player Development and Pathways

The minimum age for players in Netball Victoria’s Talent Identification (TID) program is 14 years. The TID program is designed to work primarily via Associations representative teams. State League competition only encompasses three grades – Championship, Division 1, and Division 2. Players can be a member of a club that has State League teams – but are not considered State League players unless they are participating in these grades. Netball Victoria does not conduct a State League competition for 17/U or 15/U.

If you are looking for a new club you should consider asking the following:
• Is the club incorporated?
• Which affiliated Association is the club under?
• What is its management structure?
• What is the club philosophy? What are its policies, pathways, etc?
• Do the club policies etc comply with Netball Victoria policies?
• Does the club have a policy document? Can you receive a copy?
• Does the club offer player development opportunities?
• Does the club policy require coaches to be accredited and does it support coach education? Club Playing/Training
• What levels of competition does the club offer?
• What age groups are catered for? Where do the teams play/train?
• What is the player/team selection and playing policy?
• What costs are involved in joining the club?
• Are parents required to assist the club? In what way?
• Does the player have to sign an agreement? If yes, ask to see a copy.

Looking for a coach?
As well as finding out about a club, you should ask about the coach(es) who may be in charge of your development, or you child and their netball.
• Does the coach have current NCAS netball accreditation? Do they keep up to date?
• Is the coach a current member of Netball Victoria?
• What is their level of experience? What age groups have they coached? For how many years?
• What is the coach’s personal policy re selection/court time allocation? o Ask this question if the club does not have a selection/playing policy that the coach must follow
• What is the coach’s policy re selection/court time?
• Ask to attend a training session
• Ask to join in at the training session o See how the coach interacts and meet some of the other players
• Ask to attend a match o See how the coach works with the team players/team officials/parents/umpires etc.
