The Wonthaggi and District Netball Association (WDNA) is excited to announce the full return of its Saturday netball competition, marking a major milestone for the local community.
After a period of rebuilding, the WDNA has revived Saturday netball and with a renewed purpose. The 2026 season officially launches on March 28, reflecting on months of volunteer led planning, community consultation, and an unwavering commitment to getting players of all ages back on court.
The competition has already gained traction, generating a strong momentum with multiple teams and players returning while having a high interest of new players and families wanting to be involved. From junior players taking the court for the very first time to long-standing clubs reuniting, the competition has gained the spotlight within the Wonthaggi sporting community.
Netball Victoria has worked alongside the WDNA to get their Saturday competition up and running, with the association being entirely volunteer run.
The WDNA joint vice-president, Virginia Hunt, has been a driving force in bringing this competition back to life.
“Saturday netball has always been about more than just games. It’s about belonging, confidence and community,” said Hunt.
“Bringing this competition back has been a huge collective effort, and we’re incredibly proud of what our clubs, volunteers and players have achieved together.”
With the return of the competition, female participation pathways and the support of junior development have strengthened, which reinforces the WDNA’s role as a key community sport provider in the region.
