Coaching & Umpiring
Netball Victoria can facilitate the delivery of an Introduction to Coaching or Introduction to Umpiring workshop, presented by Netball Victoria’s Workforce Developers. We can also provide access to the Netball Learning Centre for students to complete a number of online courses to compliment classroom learning. These are self-paced and can be completed over any number of sessions.

A practical workshop focuses on the background information to coaching and practical drills for coaches including coaching pathway, policies and procedures, inclusive coaching, basics of netball, planning a training session including the Change It model and 5 steps of progressions, warm up and cool downs, and drills focusing on: ball handling, footwork, attacking, defending, goal shooting and midcourt.
2hour Delivery
Cost: $20 per student
The perfect way for players, coaches, parents or anyone interested to learn all the basics of umpiring. Participants in this workshop are assumed to have some basic knowledge of the rules. Covers topics such as expectations and characteristics of a beginner umpire, using your whistle and hand signals effectively, infringements and sanctions, and positioning on the court.
3hour Delivery
Cost: $35 per student
The Foundation Coach Online Course is targeted primarily at beginner coaches, teachers, parents and NetSetGo coaches and outlines introductory coaching information and basic netball techniques. The course is the first step in the national coaching accreditation framework and is an important step along the knowledge pathway for a coach.
The course contains the following four modules: The role of the coach, Planning, Teaching netball skills, and The coach in action.
Cost: $70 per student
Students can earn a Foundation Coach Accreditation by completing this course, along with the Rules of Netball Exam ($13) with a 70% pass mark.
This course is designed to support umpires in achieving the necessary skills and knowledge to be an effective umpire. Students will learn about the qualities and characteristics of an effective umpire, role and responsibilities, communication skills, fundamental umpire techniques, basic rules and applications, and infringements and penalties.
Rules of Netball Exam (2-hour time limit) - A multiple choice exam with 100 questions, required for coach and umpire accreditations, with a minimum pass mark of 70%.
Cost: $50 per student + $13 add on for the Rules of Netball Exam
