How to Become a Coach - Accreditation

Netball Victoria will continue to offer opportunities for coaches to progress through the Netball Australia’s Coach Accreditation Pathway, conducting courses and workshops at each level of the six-tier structure.

Foundation Coach Accreditation Online Course

Netball Australia launched the Foundation Coach Accreditation Online Course in 2016.

The online Foundation Coach Accreditation Course is targeted primarily at beginner coaches, teachers, parents and Suncorp NetSetGO coaches and outlines introductory coaching information and basic netball techniques. The Course is the first step in the national coaching accreditation framework and is an important step along the knowledge pathway for a coach.

The course contains the following four modules:
- The role of the coach
- Planning
- Teaching netball skills
- The coach in action

There are no pre-requisites for this accreditation.

Foundation Coach Online Course: 
Duration: There is no time limit on completing the course. You can learn in a self-paced environment and can log in and log out as required. But you must complete the course within a year of enrolling or it will expire.

Cost: $70.00 (plus transaction fees)

Rules of Netball Exam:
The Rules of Netball Exam must be completed for the Foundation Coach Accreditation to be awarded. 
Pass mark of 70% or higher

Duration: 120 minutes

Cost: $12.50

Development Coach Accreditation Course

The Blended Learning Development Coach Accreditation was launched in 2017.

The blended learning (online and practical workshop) Development Coach Accreditation Course is targeted primarily at Club, Association and Regional coaches and teachers aiming to further their netball knowledge. The Course is the second step in the national coaching accreditation framework and provides a good introduction to skill progression and fault detection and correction.

Duration:
Online Course – There is no time limit on completing the course. You can learn in a self-paced environment and can log in and log out as required. But you must complete the course within a year of enrolling or it will expire.

Current Rules of Netball Theory Exam – Time limit of 120 minutes and a grade of 70% or higher

Practical Workshop – 4.5 hours.

Intermediate Coach Accreditation Course

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge of coaches who are coaching at Association Representative, Regional or Talent Academy level. The course is an excellent introduction into the practical component of the Advanced Coaching Course.

Coaches wishing to participate in the Intermediate Coaching Course, must bring two players to the course with them for the Practical Assessment component only.

These players must be available at the venue from 1.00-4.00pm and be a minimum of 14 years of age. Failure to provide two players for the Practical Assessment will disqualify the coach from being able to undertake the Assessment component of the course and therefore be ineligible to be awarded the accreditation.

Advanced Coach Accreditation Course

The Advanced Coaching Course is designed for coaches wanting to further develop their coaching skills to a level recommended for Victorian Netball League and Victorian State teams.

3 days, 2 mentored coaching sessions and 1 final assessment

Minimum of 16 years old

Two years coaching at a minimum level of Representative 15/U

Coaches must have had at least one year/season coaching experience after completion of a Netball Australia Intermediate Coaching Course.

Two coaching session plans assessed as competent by a mentor (Advanced Accreditation or higher)

Elite Coach Accreditation Course

The Elite Course is designed for coaches of Victorian Netball League & Victorian State Teams and is conducted annually by Netball Victoria.

8 hour Face to Face Course (Elite Strategies Day) with additional theory components via correspondence and one final assessment

Current Advanced Coach Accreditation 

1 year coaching at a minimum level of Victorian State League level (for candidates wishing to complete accreditation (participants may attend Elite strategies day without this pre-requisite)

High Performance Coach Accreditation Course

The High-Performance Coaching course is conducted by Netball Australia for coaches wanting to reach the pinnacle of coaching. This course has BEEN MODIFIED to reflect the changing requirements of coaching in the High Performance environment.

Refund & Transfer Policies

If notification is provided to Netball Australia (through learning@netball.com.au) prior to a learner completing an online course, Netball Australia will refund the learner the full cost of the course, less the administration/processing fee. If notification is provided to Netball Australia (through learning@netball.com.au) after a learner has paid and subsequently completed an online course, Netball Australia will not provide the learner a refund.

Payment must accompany registration. Netball Victoria will be enforcing Netball Australia National Policy and Assessment Guidelines in relation to refunds of course enrolment fees, as follows:

- Notification of withdrawal in writing up to 30 days prior to commencement of the course – Full refund.
- Notification of withdrawal in writing up to 14 days prior to commencement of the course – 50% refund.
- Notification of withdrawal in writing less than 14 days prior to commencement of the course – No refund.

Please note that transfers will only be approved if requested prior to the course date, and only transfers in to a course in the same calendar year will be processed.
