Frequently Asked Questions

The Netball Exchange is a sustainable initiative that provides an opportunity for our community members to upgrade their used netballs, giving back to the community and preventing additional landfill.

Members of our netball community are encouraged to donate or exchange their used netballs at each Netball Exchange event. For every three used netballs, participants will receive one brand new Gilbert netball thanks to RACV. The maximum number of new netballs a club or association may receive is 10. Supply of new netballs is always subject to terms and conditions and stock availability.

All used netballs will be assessed, and either donated to a nominated community group or recycled by our sustainability partner Game On Recycling based on condition and wear.

The aim of the Netball Exchange is to give back to communities in need and divert as much waste from landfill as possible.

With the support of RACV and Game On Recycling, we're working to break down barriers that prevent young people from taking up netball across Victoria. Through the distribution of donated netballs, we can provide essential equipment to communities that may not have the funds to supply their own.

Our next Netball Exchange event will take place on Saturday 11 February 2023 at the Melbourne Vixens Community Roadshow in Bendigo.

When: 10.30am-12.30pm
Where: Golden City Netball Association (outdoor courts at Red Energy Arena, West Bendigo)

Please note your used netballs MUST BE DEFLATED before donating.

Netball Victoria collects and assesses the condition of all donated balls, and allocates them to one of two next steps:

1.	Balls in good condition will be provided to a community for use in training or on match day
2.	Balls in poor condition will be recycled through our sustainability partner, Game on Recycling, and transformed into a raw material that can be used for a variety of purposes including new sporting surfaces, anti-fatigue mats, soft fall kindergarten matting, gyms and change rooms, and planter boxes. The raw material has the potential to be used to create new netball courts in the future.

For every three used balls donated to the Netball Exchange, you will receive one brand new Gilbert netball thanks to RACV (subject to terms and conditions and limited stock availability).

Yes, you can opt to donate your new netball/s to a community in need. Please let our team know when you donate your used netballs and they'll ensure a new Gilbert netball is supplied to a nominated community group, thanks to RACV.

As many as you like! For every three used balls donated to the Netball Exchange, you will receive one brand new Gilbert netball (subject to terms and conditions and limited stock availability).

The maximum number of new netballs a club or association can receive in return is 10, but you can donate as many used netballs as you like.

To be donated to a community in need of equipment, a netball must have no rips, tears, loose threads or egging. The entire ball must have consistent minimal wear and good grip to the touch.

A ball with any rips, tears, loose threads or egging will be recycled. If the ball is otherwise in good condition but has no grip to the touch, it needs to be recycled.

The used netballs can be any colour, size, brand, or material - they do not need to be a specific brand in order to be exchanged. Please note your used netballs MUST BE DEFLATED before donating.

The Netball Exchange is open to all ages. If you have used netballs that you wish to donate, you are welcome to participate in the program.
