The Victorian Netball League (VNL) awards are set to kick off on Tuesday 21 September night, with a raft of players ranging from the 19 & Under, Division 1 and Championship divisions, all hoping to get their hands on some silverware.
In true COVID style, the award winners will be announced on Netball Victoria’s social media channels across three nights - Tuesday through to Thursday- and will encompass not only player awards but so too umpire awards.
Unfortunately, the full VNL season was unable to go ahead due to current COVID-19 restrictions, however the league and teams still managed 11 rounds. While some games couldn’t be attended in person, over 20,000 fans tuned into the livestream every Wednesday night to catch a glimpse of the action out on court.
The awards will commence on Tuesday night with the Team of the Year released across all three divisions, followed by the Hot Shot awards announced on Wednesday night, celebrating the star shooters of each division. The highly anticipated MVP award will be revealed on Thursday night with a number of hot players in contention for the trophy.
It was another highly competitive season of VNL even though it ended abruptly, with City West Falcons taking out top spot in the Championship division thanks to their 10 wins and one draw with the only blemish coming in Round 1 against Geelong Cougars. In Division 1, North East Blaze reigned supreme, securing top spot thanks to their 10 wins and one loss while Peninsula Waves got the job done in 19 & Under division, registering seven wins and two draws to take out first spot on the ladder.
