The state’s premier netball league, the Victorian Netball League has revealed its 2025 fixture, with a blockbuster season to kick off on Wednesday 12 March.
The season will run for 18 rounds, with a 4-week finals series to culminate in Grand Finals on Wednesday 13 August.
The season marks the second year of the newest licensing agreement, with newcomers Gippsland Stars to field a Championship division team for the first time in 2025.
Highlighting the vast reach of VNL, the 2025 season will be played in 14 venues across Victoria. Returning to many VNL homes again, the league will also venture into two new stadiums – Warragul Leisure Centre and Bayside Community Sports Centre.
Rivalry will be created when teams travel to each other’s stomping grounds throughout the season, with battles in the Southeast between Peninsula Waves and Casey Demons, and Hawks Netball and Wilson Storage Southern Saints, and newly created tussles set to be formed between North East Blaze and Bendigo Strikers, and Boroondara Express and Western Warriors. Peninsula Waves and newcomers Gippsland Stars will also visit each other during the season.
The VNL takes to the road in round five, which will be played as a split round across Wednesdays in the April school holidays. Clubs will be looking to showcase their talents to the local community when all 12 games are played away from the State Netball Centre, in Cranbourne East, Altona Meadows, Bundoora, Warragul, Malvern East and Thornbury.
Fans will have to wait until round six (Championship – City West Falcons vs Boroondara Express) and round 11 (23&U – Hawks Netball vs North East Blaze) to witness Grand Final rematches from the 2024 season.
With the support of Netball Victoria’s partner, RACV, Pride Round will return in round nine, while First Nations Round will be celebrated in round 16, leading into NAIDOC Week.
The regular season will finish up on Wednesday 16 July, where all 12 teams will come back to the State Netball Centre for a fitting finish to the 2025 season.
The 2025 season will see an abundance of stars across the 12 teams, with the likes of Mwai Kumwenda (Peninsula Waves), Rahni Samason (Wilson Storage Southern Saints), Kristiana Manua, Zoe Davies (Bendigo Strikers) and Nyah Allen (North East Blaze) suiting up for their chosen teams. New arrivals from interstate Millie Roach (Wilson Storage Southern Saints) and Ashlea Mawer (Hawks Netball) will be looking to shake up the competition.
