Netball Victoria has announced the 2026 captains and vice-captains for the Victorian 17/U and 19/U state teams, who will lead the squad on home soil at the National Netball Championships in Melbourne this April.
Mia Aitken and Mackenzie O’Dwyer have been named co-captains of the 19/U team, Cleo McLachlan will captain the 17/U team supported by her co-captain Manon Muir.
The Victorian state teams are the peak squads in the high performance pathway for their respective age groups, and the 2026 National Netball Championships will be a crucial opportunity for these players to showcase their talent on the national stage.
19/U
Mia Aitken (co-captain) Steps in her second time as captain after serving the 17/U co-captain in 2024. Now in her fourth year in the state team program, the talented defender has continued to make her mark. Known for her versatility in the defensive circle and strong ability to read the play, Aitken’s defensive pressure and leadership make her a key player in the 19/U side.
Mackenzie O’Dwyer (co-captain) returns to the leadership group for a second year after previously serving as the 17/U co-captain in 2024, once again partnering with Mia in the role. Now in her fourth year in the state team program, the dynamic midcourter continues to grow her impact. Known for her speed, composure and ability to drive play through the centre third, Mackenzie is a vital link between defence and attack. Her strong communication and calm leadership make her a key influence within the 19/U side.
17/U
Cleo McLachlan (captain) leads the 17/U Victorian State Team in her first year as captain, bringing strong defensive skills to the side. Now in her second year with the State Program, Cleo plays as a GD and GK, and has already made her mark through consistent performance and leadership potential. Her experience in the program sets the tone for the team as they aim for success in the 2026 season.
“I'm very excited to be leading such a strong and energetic group of girls alongside Manon and excited to see what Nationals brings for the team,” she said.
“We all individually bring something but the first thing that comes to mind is that our team came together very quickly. We have a lot of composure, which I think will be great at Nationals, and I would trust our team in every single moment.”
Manon Muir (vice-captain) steps into her first year as vice-captain of the 17/U Victorian State Team, bringing her standout midcourt skills to the leadership group. As a First Nations player in the program, Manon earned her place after representing the 2025 First Nations State Team and is making her debut in the Victorian State Program this year. Her unique experience and perspective add an important voice to the team as they take on the 2026 season.
“When I got the call, I wasn’t expecting it, so it was very exciting to hear… I’m so honored to be a captain,” she said.
“I think Cleo and I will make a great duo. Our energy and what we bring will add something extra to the team.”
