Netball Connect
Congratulations on successfully transitioning to Netball Connect for competition management in 2023! Netball Victoria thanks you for all your patience, cooperation, and support around the initial rollout of Netball Connect and are thrilled to see the excitement that our affiliates are showing for the capabilities of the system!
Planning for updates in Netball Connect for 2023 are well underway, with lots of purposeful functionality improvements prepped for release.
The most recent system update in November of 2022 has seen the following improvements.
- Team Registrations: If a team has been registered to a competition and players invited to register to the team and then the competition registration period has closed, those individuals will still be able to use their link to register to the team.
- App: Centre pass icon has been added to iPad - hand next to team with centre pass. A new Icon 'Centre Pass' (only premier comps)
- App: Download indicator added to phone and tablet. Available from More > app settings > offline support > show download indicators on home. When this is enabled, it will show indicators on the home screen based on whether match data required for scoring has been downloaded
- System: Changes to saving of offline request data to files. This is a technical change to cater for devices with low memory specifications
- App: Bug Fix - Manager's assigning themselves as scorers will now be reflected in the App
- App: Remove the ability to edit match attendance after the match has ended (App). When the match has ended you cannot edit match attendance in the app. You can edit in the desktop

Policy Updates
To ensure our policy framework is consistent and effective Netball Victoria undertakes regular reviews of our Policies and Regulations. Our Gender Regulation and Transgender & Gender Diverse Policy have both undergone minor amendments which are outlined below.
Gender Regulation – Netball Victoria is committed to supporting our affiliates increase the number of opportunities for mixed and male netball competitions. As a result the Gender Regulation has been updated to support Netball Victoria’s position by adding a clause that may permit competition organisers to apply some discretion to the rules if it is intended to increase opportunities for male participation. Any affiliate seeking variation to the regulation must contact Netball Victoria for approval.

Australian Diamonds Head Coach Q&A
After an almost perfect 2022, Origin Australian Diamonds Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich joins us to reflect on Commonwealth Games gold and international test success, as well as looking forward to a huge 2023. In an open question and answer format, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to pick the brains of the Australian High-Performance Coach – What goes in to those line-up changes we saw at Comm Games? How on Earth do you whittle down the squad ahead of World Cup 2023? What does training look like? You name it, we will ask it!
Alongside this online session, we will present the 5 night/1 day event over two weeks to maximise opportunities to attend, culminating in a practical session (9:00-3:00pm) at the State Netball Centre. Hear from SSN umpires Bronwen Adams and Josh Bowring, Victorian State coaches Wendy Jacobsen and Adrian Ballantyne (The Netball Coach), amongst many more!

Environment Working Group
Thank you to everyone for doing their part for the environment and donating their used Netball’s at the 2022 State Titles. Over 2,600 balls were donated in response to the Netball exchange initiative, with those that still have some life in them being donated to communities in need. The remaining balls are being used by Game on Recycling to research and test how these balls can be utilised in the future to develop commonly used netball equipment such as goal posts.
After the enormous success of the Netball Exchange, Netball Victoria are encouraging you all, as an end of season clean out, to collect any old and worn out netballs that you are no longer using, and drop them off for recycling at your closet collection point or selected Rebel Sports stores. To find out how to set up a recycling collection point at your local venue, register here.
The Netball Victoria Environmental working group looks forward to being a part of 'empowering our netball community to live healthier lives in a healthier environment' in 2023.
