For more than six decades, Lynne Cox has dedicated her life to netball, a remarkable journey that began as a teenage umpire and continues today through her volunteer roles with Two Bays Netball Region and Peninsula Waves.
Lynne has recently completed her 24th year with Two Bays Netball Region, where she has served as Region Liaison Officer, committee member and more recently State Titles Officer. She also continues to support Peninsula Waves as Uniform Officer, Team Manager and committee member.
Now more than 60 years since first picking up a whistle at age 16, Lynne remains one of the most passionate and respected volunteers in the Victorian netball community. From organising State Titles campaigns to supporting athletes and coaches behind the scenes, her commitment to the game has never slowed down.
What started on local courts in regional Victoria quickly became a lifelong passion. Lynne played, umpired and volunteered across multiple associations before moving to Melbourne in 1976, where she continued to build lifelong friendships and contribute to the sport at every level.
Over the years, Lynne has become known not just for her organisation and dedication, but for the care she shows every athlete, coach and volunteer she works alongside. Her impact stretches far beyond the court, helping create opportunities and memorable experiences for generations of players.
One of the standout moments in Lynne’s volunteering journey came in 2011 when a Two Bays team won the 15&U Division at State Titles.
Even after decades in the game, Lynne says the greatest reward of volunteering is still the people and connections built along the way.
“It is the most rewarding experience that anyone can have as a volunteer to have the people you work with so closely for so many years become part of your netball family,” she said.
Known by many as the heart of her netball community, Lynne continues to give everything she has to the sport she loves, proving age is no barrier to making a lasting impact.
