The Victorian Fury have climbed to the top of the Australian Netball League ladder after two dominant wins on the weekend against the Netball NSW Waratahs.
The Fury came-out firing in the first game, with a strong second quarter performance setting them up with an 11-goal lead.
Fury shooter Kate Thompson, was pivotal in the second quarter, shooting 13 goals and going on to finish with 43 for the match.
Leading from the first break, the Fury’s defence was relentless on the Waratahs’ attackers, with the team winning by 18-goals, 62 – 44.
The second game continued in the same fashion – the Fury boosted with the addition of three Melbourne Vixens players.
Khao Watts, Emma Ryde and Kadie-Ann Dehaney took to the court for the Fury on Sunday, after missing the opportunity to play in the Vixens’ line-up on Saturday night.
All three players played the full game, and were a major influence in the team’s 44-goal win.
A 19 Fury – 8 Waratahs first quarter set the Fury up for the match, and with a 21 – 7 second quarter, they held a convincing lead at the main break.
Ryde was dominant throughout the game, scoring 52 goals, including 18 of their 21 in the second quarter.
By the end of the match, the team had over doubled their winning margin compared to the previous day, defeating last year’s runners-up by 44 goals, 72 – 28.
The Fury now sit first on the ANL ladder on five wins, with just percentage separating them and the Queensland Fusion in second position.
