The Victorian Fury will begin their title defence against new Australian Netball League team, the Tasmanian Magpies, in Round 1 of the national competition.
Playing as a curtain-raiser to the Melbourne Vixens and Magpies Netball match, the Fury open the ANL season with their first of three Suncorp Super Netball double-headers.
Pursuing their eighth ANL premiership – and fifth in a row – the Fury have been the most successful team in the ANL since its inception in 2008.
Taking on the youth of a new team, the Fury will look to their more-experienced players Kim Commane, Elle Bennetts and Captain Stephanie Puopolo to lead the side.
Adding to the rivalry of cross-town parent teams, many players amongst the two teams are former teammates.
Tasmanian Kelsie Rainbow, will take the court for the Fury against her home-state team, whilst former Fury members Ella Bayliss and Sam Gooden will pull-on the dress for the Magpies.
The first match of the Fury’s season will be played prior to the Suncorp Super Netball match, with the game beginning at 5pm at Hisense Arena.
The teams will rematch the following day, doing battle at the State Netball Hockey Centre on Sunday from midday.
