The Victorian Fury are off to Perth this weekend, to join the other top three sides in the Australian Netball League for the finals, which will showcase some of Australian netball’s best emerging talent.
The Fury will start their finals campaign against the fourth-placed Queensland Fusion in the semi-final, with the winner progressing through to the Grand Final.
When they last played in Round 5, there were mixed results, with a draw in the first game and Fury winning the second.
Fury Head Coach, Leesa Gallard said consistency is the key to winning the first semi-final against the Fusion.
“We will need to execute our game plan across four quarters,” Gallard said.
“We must be consistent in our work rate in both attack and defence across the game and continue to work strongly as a team.”
The other two teams, Canberra GIANTS and Western Sting, will do battle in the second semi-final.
The Fury have recorded wins against both the GIANTS and Sting throughout the season, most recently playing the GIANTS in Round 6. Fury shooter, Kate Thompson, will be looking to continue her outstanding form this season after shooting 40 goals in the team’s last game against the Southern Force.
Thompson has formed a formidable combination in the shooting circle with Captain, Stephanie Puopolo, this year.
Gallard said the team is excited about the upcoming finals series.
“We are ready for some tough finals netball and know that we will need to put our best Fury performance out on court against quality opponents,” Gallard said.
“All four teams in the finals series have earnt their position in the finals with strong performances across the round games.
“We have had tough encounters with all the teams in the finals series so it should be a fantastic weekend of ANL netball,” Gallard said.
The Fury will play their first game of the weekend on Saturday 8 April at 4pm AWST (6pm AEST) at the State Netball Centre, Perth.
