The Victorian Fury continue to dominate in the 2017 Australian Netball League, winning both games this weekend against the Western Sting.
Beginning Round 4 on Saturday night at Hisense Arena, the Fury had a tough game against the fifth-placed Sting.
Going goal-for-goal for the opening part of the match, the Fury managed to pull-away in the second quarter, leading by as much as five.
However, coming into the final quarter the Sting caught-up, thanks to some impressive shooting from their goaler, Sophie Garbin.
With eight minutes left to play, the scores were level at 43 all.
The Fury pulled-away once more, finishing with a three-goal lead 53 – 50.
Midcourters Elle Bennetts and Lara Dunkley impressed during the match, whilst Goal Keeper Ramayer Gourley stood-up under pressure from the Sting’s shooter, Garbin.
The Fury came out strong in the second game of the weekend, scoring 20 goals in the opening quarter to lead 20 – 11 at the first break.
Another high-scoring quarter for the team in the third put the game beyond reach, with the Fury winning 63 – 51.
The Fury were boosted with the addition of Melbourne Vixens’ players Emma Ryde and Kadie-Ann Dehaney, both playing a pivotal role in the team’s win.
Ryde shot 41 goals from 51 attempts for the game, helping the Fury to the 12-goal victory.
The wins see the Fury sit one game clear on top of the ANL ladder, with seven wins from eight games.
They are followed by the Canberra GIANTS and Queensland Fusion, who have won six of their eight games.
The Fury now turn their sights to the third-placed Queensland Fusion for Round 5 of the competition.
