The Wilson Storage Southern Saints are thrilled to announce that elite netballer and iconic netball coach Jane Searle will return to the Saints in 2021 as coach mentor.
As Aussie Diamond #87, Jane was famed for her ability to shut her opponent down and her enduring calm in the face of international court pressure. Jane played at an elite level with Victorian and national teams for more than 10 years, and was Diamonds Vice-Captain in 1986.
After her stellar playing career (which incredibly also included playing elite basketball at a national level) and 10 years as a Senior Police Constable, Jane began her coaching career as head coach at the Victorian Institute of Sport in 1995 until 2008, and was the Victorian State Coach from 1997 to 2001.
Jane began as head coach at the Melbourne Kestrels in 2004, leading them to the finals for the next 4 years. Like many professionals in netball, Jane also managed to work as assistant coach to the Australian team, before heading the South African team in the 2001 three-nation series.
Joining the national netball competition in 2009, Jane coached the West Coast Fever for 3 seasons and was coach of the Australian FAST5 Flyers in 2013/2014, winning 2 silver medals in the FAST5 Netball World Series in both years.
The Saints previously welcomed Jane as their Head Coach in 2012, coaching their Championship outfit until 2016, which included the 2014 VNL Premiership. Janes style of coaching left an indelible mark on the club.
Jane joined the Adelaide Thunderbirds as Assistant Coach from 2016 to 2018, and most recently Jane has been spearheading the Brunei National Team as their National Coach. The Saints are thrilled Jane will be bringing her incredible skill set and vast experience to support and mentor their coaching team in 2021.
