We’ve reached the final day of the 2023 National Netball Championships in Darwin. Our 19/Under side will battle NSW for the bronze medal after losing their semi final to WA on Saturday, while our 17/Under team will face WA in a fight for bronze after going down to NSW.
17/Under – VIC (38) defeated by NSW (51)
In front of a packed house at CDU Stadium on Larrakia Country, our 17/Under side fought hard but fell short against the reigning champions. Mia Lavis was outstanding in attack, shouldering the bulk of the shooting load and delivering well-timed leads and positioning for her feeders. NSW got their noses in front early and couldn’t be stopped, despite the relentless efforts of our defensive unit.
19/Under – VIC (31) defeated by WA (42)
Another tough loss for our 19/Under squad, faced with a WA side that was ultimately just too good. The second quarter proved deadly, WA putting out a 14-5 term and building a margin the Vics couldn’t reel in, despite coming back to take the third term by four goals. Tara Watson was a shining light in the midcourt, working hard and delivering for her teammates in both wing defence and centre. Christine Oguche was again a standout in goals (16/19), ably supported by Lily Graham and Olivia Wilkinson.
