Five Victorian athletes have been selected in the Samsung Australian Diamonds team to contest the 2018 Quad Series, in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games.
Melbourne Vixens Liz Watson, Jo Weston and Kate Moloney have all been selected to represent Australia in the series against New Zealand, England and South Africa, after impressing in recent Diamonds outings, along with fellow Victorians Caitlin Thwaites and Sharni Layton*.
Watson, Weston, Moloney and Thwaites were all part of the Diamonds’ series white-wash against the New Zealand Silver Ferns in the Constellation Cup last month.
While Layton has been named for the upcoming Quad Series subject to medical clearance after taking a leave of absence over the last three months.
Netball Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Rosie King said it was wonderful to again see so many Victorian athletes selected in the team to represent Australia.
“We are thrilled to see five Victorian athletes selected in the 2018 Quad Series team.
“Our High Performance pathway is something we work so hard to build, to ensure it is providing the opportunities athletes need as they develop. To see numerous Victorian athletes selected first in the 2017/18 Diamonds Squad and then named in competition teams, like the 2018 Quad Series, is wonderful and a testament to our strong pathway,” said King.
“I wish the whole team well as they prepare for the 2018 Quad Series and hope to see our talented locals take to the court,” said King.
The entire 2017/18 Diamonds Squad will come together at the Netball Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, from 11 to 14 January for a Commonwealth Games Simulation Camp, before the 14 Quad Series athletes travel to England.
