ONES TO WATCH
Championship
City West Falcons will take on Boroondara Express in the Championship Grand Final. The Falcons come off a bye following their semi final win, while Express enjoyed a hard-fought victory last week. Expect to see a midcourt battle between Casey Adamson and Montana Holmes, who’ve both been instrumental for their sides in 2023. Express’ Sarah Szczykulski has been unbelievable in goalkeeper, but will have her hands full trying to stop an in-form Jane Cook under the post.
Division 1
Geelong Cougars will face off with North East Blaze to battle it out for the Division 1 premiership. The Cougars enjoyed a break following their semi final victory, while Blaze come off a big preliminary final win. It’ll be a clash of the shooters when Ellen Doyle and Abby Gedge go head-to-head at either end of the court. Keep an eye on the exciting midcourt match-up of Kiahna Fallon and Maddi Wallmeyer. With one win apiece in 2023, it’s a game that can’t be missed.
19&Under
City West Falcons play Melbourne University Lightning in the 19&U Grand Final. The Falcons earned a week off following their narrow semi final win, while the Lightning bounced back in emphatic fashion with a strong prelim victory. Charlotte Sexton, who’s been a pillar in the Falcons’ defence, will need to continue that form when she comes up against sharpshooter Kate O’Dwyer. Similarly, Lightning defender Tepaea Hobson will need to be at her best when she takes on Holly Adams-Alcock in the circle.
