ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Championship
-
While most teams have a tight turnaround after Round 11 on Wednesday, the City West Falcons waltz into Super Sunday with fresh legs after the bye, taking on North East Blaze in a 2 vs 3 battle. Both sides are sitting on eight wins and are comfortably in the top four. As we tick over to the second half of the season, refinement and confidence is what these two sides will be after.
-
Geelong Cougars are looking to cement their spot in finals contention and with the next few weeks of winnable games, it could be the momentum they need as we begin the run home. They face Bendigo Strikers who may benefit from a home court advantage. The Strikers’ Heather Oliver has racked up the minutes in recent weeks at either end of the court and may be the secret weapon to shutting down the Cougars.
23&Under
-
The Hawks remain undefeated but come up against an in-form Peninsula Waves who are still withing reach of the top four. ‘To be the best, you have to beat the best’ comes to mind for the Waves who still have a chance to make finals, with the possibility of facing the Hawks when it comes to crunch time. The Waves’ formidable force of Taylah Werner and Charlize Gabel Joseph will have targets on their back.
ONE TO WATCH
Regularly shooting at over 90%, Melbourne University Lightning’s Kate O’Dwyer offers a strong target in Lightning’s attack end. The holding shooter was named in last year’s 19&U VNL Team of the Year and represented Victoria in the 2024 National Netball Championships. O’Dwyer has been building an impressive connection with Emma Winfield, a connection that has been pivotal in the side’s success this year.
