ONES TO WATCH
Championship
North East Blaze will be looking to make it three in a row when they take on the Saints. Sitting fourth on the ladder, Blaze come off a narrow Round 12 win, while the fifth-placed Saints will be looking to rejoin the top four. With only a game separating the two sides, it’s set to be a fierce matchup in the circle between Emily Andrew and Ty Coppinger.
Geelong Cougars will be hoping to bounce back from last week’s loss, but an in-form Casey Demons stand in their way. Cougars’ Brooke Allen, who’s been a pillar in defence, will have her hands full trying to stop sharpshooter Emma Ryde.
Division 1
Round 13 will see a top four clash between Hawks Netball and City West Falcons. Currently sitting in second and third place in this division, both sides are on winning streaks and have been hard to fault this season. Expect to see a battle between Hawks’ Kate Fletcher and Falcons’ Chelsea Imanisani, who’ve both been on fire in the midcourt. North East Blaze are chasing their fifth consecutive victory when they face Wilson Storage Southern Saints this round. Saints’ Lenna Bruun has been strong in defence and will need to keep the pressure high when she takes on an in-form Abigail Gedge under the post.
19/Under
Melbourne University Lightning will be hoping to continue their hot form with a win against Boroondara Express. With only percentage separating the top three in the 19&U division, the second-placed Lightning will be keen to solidify their spot with another victory. Keep an eye out for a midcourt battle between Montaya Sardi and Ava Van Leemput, who’ve both been instrumental for their sides this season.
In other matchups, City West Falcons and Hawks Netball will face off in another top four clash, while Peninsula Waves and Ariels chase their third win of 2023. Waves’ Charlize Gabel Joseph has been a star in attack and will be hoping to continue that form when she comes up against Ariels’ defence.
