ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Championship
- Finalists in 2024, Hawks Netball and Boroondara Express will go head-to-head at the State Netball Centre on Wednesday. Sarah Szczykulski will have her hands full managing newcomer Ashlea Mawer, whilst Casey Adamson and Sienna Green will tussle in a midcourt battle.
- Geelong Cougars will host Melbourne University Lightning in Torquay on Sunday, for their only home game of the season, where new Lightning signing Lorna Clark will come up against a seasoned professional in Ally O’Connor. There will be young guns all across the court, with Lightning’s Alex Booker and Emma Winfield, and Cougars Kiahna Fallon and Charlotte Morey coming off stellar performances in Round 1.
23&Under
- Casey Demons will host the Wilson Storage Southern Saints in the first of three homes games at Casey Stadium for the season. Both teams are coming off losses in Round 1, so will be looking to secure the points on Sunday. Hayley Howard starred for Saints last week – scoring 34 goals at 94%, as did Casey’s Holly Stephens, so this match is shaping up to be a shootout.
- It will be a tight contest at Cobblebank Stadium on Sunday, between two of the league’s newest clubs, Western Warriors and Bendigo Strikers. Warriors’ new defender Grace Hay impressed in their Round 1 match, so will be looking to produce another great performance to shut down Strikers’ goalers in Ella Kerlin and Chloe Langley.
ONE TO WATCH
Returning to Melbourne and the VNL after a stint in South Australia with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, goaler Nyah Allen will be looking to put a stamp on the competition for North East Blaze, returning to the competition she was named Championship division MVP of in 2022. Allen’s speed and accuracy on goal will cause headaches for defenders this year.
