ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Championship
Sparks will fly as MU Lightning take on Geelong Cougars in their first clash of the season. Geelong defender and Melbourne Mavericks training partner Brooke Allan is ready for the challenge: “We match up quite well, and they make us use every tool we’ve got,” she said.
23&Under
Boroondara Express host Casey Demons on Monday night in an exciting start to the week. The Demons have some exciting young talent on their list, including 19&U Team of the Year member Piuti Laban. Boroondara will have to keep the talented midcourter in check if they want to take the four points this week.
ONE TO WATCH
MU Lightning’s Ramayer Gourley has impressed in the opening rounds, the former Victorian Fury and Collingwood Magpies ANC representative demonstrating her versatility at both ends of the court. Lightning head coach Tegan Hopkins has the luxury of swinging Gourley from defence to attack, where her goalers will face a tenacious Cougars defensive end including the in-form Allan this week. Gourley was dominant in last week’s win over Casey Demons, scoring 36 goals at 92% accuracy.
