ONES TO WATCH
Championship
Round 8 will see a top four clash between Geelong Cougars and North East Blaze at the State Netball Centre. Third-placed Cougars are chasing their fifth consecutive win, while Blaze are hot on their heels in fourth and looking to snag three in a row. With only percentage separating the top three in this division, both sides will be hoping to claim the points to cement their spot. Blaze’s Ty Coppinger was solid in defence last week and will be looking back up that performance against a strong Cougars attack.
Division 1
Melbourne University Lightning will be hoping to re-join the winners list as they take on Boroondara Express at Boroondara Sports Complex. Lightning come off a nine-goal loss against a formidable Falcons outfit, while Express are chasing their third consecutive victory. While Lightning will go in as favourites, the in-form Express in front of a home crowd could prove a challenge. Geelong Cougars remain the only undefeated team in the league and will be hoping to continue their winning run when they face North East Blaze. The Cougars are yet to put a foot wrong, but Blaze are on a high after two strong wins.
19/Under
Sitting fourth on the ladder, Casey Demons will be chasing consecutive wins when they play Ariels at Maroondah Nets. The Demons come off a commanding 19-goal win and will be looking to replicate that performance to solidify their current position. City West Falcons will be hoping to bounce back from their first loss of 2023 as they take on Wilson Storage Southern Saints this week. The Falcons now sit third on the ladder, so they’ll be looking to climb their way back up.
