Round 14 of the VNL shouldn’t be missed, with a top of the table clash between Wilson Storage Southern Saints and City West Falcons in the 19/Under. The race for finals also continues to heat up across all three divisions.
Fixture
Melbourne University Lightning v North East Blaze
Hawks Netball v Ariels
Casey Demons v Geelong Cougars
Wilson Storage Southern Saints v City West Falcons
Peninsula Waves v Boroondara Express
Championship- Ashlee Barnett
Ashlee Barnett is a key player in the Wilson Storage Southern Saints defensive end. Barnett is back in the VNL after a season up in Queensland playing for the USC Thunder in the Sapphire Series. Barnett has struck up a formidable defensive combination with fellow Saints defender Tegan Stephenson with the pair able to shut down some of the best shooters in the competition. Barnett has a great read on the play and is able to win the ball back for the Saints. Barnett will need to be on her A-game when the Saints come up against the City West Falcons in a top four clash.
Division 1- Hannah Keane
Hannah Keane is an integral member in the Hawks attack end, with Keane a real playmaker in the Hawks goal circle and is able to bring her fellow shooter into the game by opening up the circle with a screen. Keane has a strong partnership with both Elle Rice and Dom Taylor with both combinations providing plenty of headaches for the opposition defenders. Keane also has strong hands that can grab the rebounds if needed and is extremely accurate when going to post. Keane will be hoping to be fit and firing when the Hawks come up against the Ariels this week.
19/Under- Lauren Pratt
Lauren Pratt is a strong defensive player for the Peninsula Waves who is extremely strong one on one, with Pratt able to shut down her opposition and really limit their impact on the game. Pratt has created a strong defensive combination with Talia Anderson with the pair working well to create opportunities to win the ball back for the Waves, which was on show when the Waves came up against the Geelong Cougars back in Round 12. Pratt uses her quick footwork and quick thinking to get herself into the right position to come away with possession. Pratt will be raring to go when the Waves come up against the Boroondara Express.
