The Victorian Netball League (VNL) will continue on Wednesday night for Round 15 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC) from 7pm.
With only four rounds remaining until the finals commence, this week’s fixtures are make-or-break for many sides in pursuit of a place in the top four.
The Melbourne University Lightning will take on the Boroondara Express in a battle of second versus third in Championship.
The Lightning has been strengthened by the recent return of Victorian Fury quartet Elle Bennetts, Fiona Themann, Shannon Eagland and Mikaela Vaughan.
They have set themselves a challenge to dethrone the City West Falcons and claim the minor premiership this season.
“We have set ourselves a goal of winning our next four games,” Bennetts said.
“MU has not played finals in the last three or four seasons, so I think we are in a pretty good position to make finals then hopefully do quite well.”
After producing their best team performance in their victory against the ACU Sovereigns last week, the Wilson Storage Southern Saints will be looking to continue their winning form against the Monash University Storm.
“We just need to keep pushing and not rest on our laurels to make sure we are in contention for the top four and then give finals a good crack,” Saints Captain Leah Percy said.
Hot on the heels of the Saints in the race to secure a place in the Championship top four, the DC North East Blaze will host the Geelong Cougars.
Their Division One and 19/Under matches are also expected to be tightly contested with both sides currently positioned inside the top three in each division.
The 19/Under match is a highly anticipated encounter, with the undefeated Cougars facing their greatest challenge of the season against the second-placed Blaze.
In the remaining two fixtures, the Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels face a big task against the high-flying City West Falcons, and the Peninsula Waves will host the ACU Sovereigns.
