KEY MOMENTS
Championship
- Melbourne University Lightning managed an upset win over ladder leaders Boroondara Express in defender Gabby Coffey’s 100th game. Coffey starred in the win, applying relentless defensive pressure to combat Express’ lethal attacking combination of Bella Hodgson and Ruby Barkmeyer.
- Casey Demons pulled together a full 60-minute performance to get the points over North East Blaze. Emma Ryde had a night out, shooting 45 goals at 92%. Sharni Lambden, who was recently announced as part of the Melbourne Vixens’ SN Reserves team, had a massive game in defence, working hard across the transverse line to shut down Blaze’s in-form attacking end.
- After a strong start from Bendigo Strikers, Hawks Netball’s experience shone through as they battled it out to claim a six-goal win. Jessica Tetley was elevated for the match from Hawks’ 23&Under team, and stepped up to perform strongly at the Championship level with 19 goals at 80% accuracy.
23&Under
- Ella Closter continued her stellar form in the goal circle for Western Warriors, posting a massive 49 goals at 83% against Gippsland Stars. Closter was supported well by Shaid Sasalu, who held up the defensive end and ensured her side was well-supplied with turnover ball.
- In a tight contest, City West Falcons got over the line against WS Southern Saints. Caitlin Cooke and Amalani Fauonuku tussled hard in the goal circle for their sides, with the Falcons young gun coming out on top and capitalising on her connection with Holly Adams-Alcock (39 goals at 85% accuracy).
- Peninsula Waves made it six wins in a row with a thrilling one-goal victory over Geelong Cougars. Coming from a nine-goal deficit to clinch the win in the final seconds, goaler Taylah Werner and midcourter Brianna Messina were crucial in Waves’ comeback.
