KEY MOMENTS
Championship
- The City West Falcons continued their dominance with an 11-goal win over second-placed North East Blaze. After shooting 86 goals at 100% accuracy last week, Jane Cook backed up with another solid outing for the ladder leaders, scoring 63 goals at 91%. Falcons defenders Sophie Hanrahan and Sussu Liai combined well to limit Blaze’s target Sam Silvester to 27 goals.
- The Geelong Cougars put on a show at Ballarat’s Selkirk Stadium with a thrilling four-goal run in the final minutes to seal a tight victory over the Bendigo Strikers. The see-sawing battle was locked up in the 57th minute, before goalers Emma Buwalda and Monique Parker spearheaded the team to a three-goal win, keeping their season alive.
- Wilson Storage Southern Saints defeated Casey Demons in a hard-fought encounter without their main goalers. Instead, Lauren Spinks (23 goals, 74%) and Rose Laidlaw (28 goals, 88%) rose to the occasion to get the Saints over the line.
23&Under
- Top-placed Hawks Netball escaped from the jaws of defeat in their two-goal win over Peninsula Waves. The Waves were out to a 12-goal lead before a huge third quarter from the Hawks narrowed their deficit to four. The best efforts of Waves goalers Taylah Werner (26 goals, 82%) and Charlize Gabel Joseph (27 goals, 93%) weren’t enough to slow the momentum shift, as the experienced Hawks side came up with several clutch intercepts to seal their victory.
- In a top four clash, North East Blaze continued their winning form with a 9-goal victory over City West Falcons. Ally Langdon was a standout in defence and turned over plenty of ball for midcourter Montana Wallis to put on a show in attack.
