KEY MOMENTS
Championship
- It was a fitting win for North East Blaze over the Western Warriors, to celebrate a remarkable 250 game milestone for Ty Coppinger. Warriors were strong early with Blaze kicking into gear quickly to respond. The second quarter saw Blaze take control and the lead, however a third quarter fight from both sides left the fourth quarter as anyone’s game; Warriors with a slight edge. The injection of fresh legs into the goal circle with Mia Lavis proved to be a smart call from Blaze, who took the two-goal win.
- History was made for the Gippsland Stars, as they secured their first ever win as a Championship division team. Daisy Hill and Stacie Gardiner worked hard to fend off the defensive pressure of Brooke Allan and Indya Ford. The Cougars threw everything they had into the final quarter, making three changes at the final break, but a turnover in the final minute was pivotal in the Stars’ one-goal win.
- An incredible fightback from Boroondara Express - who were seven goals down at the main break - saw them take a one-goal win over Bendigo Strikers. Rotations were high in each area of the court for Express, and the versatility paid off. The defenders had clearly kept their eye on Strikers’ goaler Gabe Richards, who has dominated over the last two weeks, as they were able to shut her down as an option.
23&Under
- Despite a final quarter comeback from City West Falcons, Casey Demons managed to hold off the 2024 finalists and come out on top with a one-goal win. It was a battle of the Hollys at either end of the court, with Casey’s Holly Stephens scoring 28 goals (at 90%) and Holly Adams-Alcock with 29 (at 76%), each proving pivotal with their composure under the post. Mollie Helmot and Ruby Dwyer combined well for Casey in the midcourt who have now pulled off two close wins in a row.
- Strikers and Express had fans on the edge of their seats with a tight second half bringing the win home for Bendigo. Composure and focussing on the basics were key for the Strikers, with a full court effort across the four quarters a credit to the win. Ella Kerlin (26 goals, 87%) was consistent under the post, teaming up with both Mia McCrann-Peters (11 goals, 92%) and Chloe Langley (19 goals, 95%) in the circle.
