National Coaching Online Accreditation Courses

The Foundation Coach Online course is the first step in the Netball Australia Coach Accreditation pathway. By completing this course you will have a well rounded understanding of netball coaching, including:

- Identifying the roles and responsibilities of the coach
- Understanding the social development considerations for why children play sport
- Understanding the benefits of using a game sense approach to teach game concepts and develop long term learning
- Understanding the importance of effective group management skills to maximise opportunities for successful participation
- Understanding the planning and review process
- Utilising effective communication techniques to develop player understanding of the basic skills of netball
- Identifying skill faults and correct technique for the basic skills of netball

The Development Coach accreditation is the second level of the Netball Australia Coach Accreditation pathway. The accreditation is a blended learning model, with an online course and practical workshop. Both elements must be completed to have the Development accreditation awarded. Please see further details below of the Development Coach Practical workshop. The course is targeted at coaches aiming to further their netball knowledge and is ideal for coaches at club and representative level. 

Once you have completed the course, you will have a good introduction to skill progression and fault detection and correction. In addition, other aspect of the course will include:
- Reviewing the first five steps of the seven steps of skill progression
- Applying the steps of skill progression within a practical environment/activity
- Safely teaching, identifying and correcting technique faults in netball for;
     Ball handling skills 
     Movement and footwork skills
     Attacking skills
     Defending skills
     Goal shooting / circle defence skills
- Creating and progressing appropriate skills sessions into dynamic situations
- Creating and evaluating simple Game Day team goals and strategies
- Applying the techniques of basic netball skills into relevant court situations
- Employing four of the self-reflection methods to evaluate and improve the quality of coach management, teaching and communication

Coaches wishing to complete this course must hold a current Foundation Coach accreditation before progressing to this level. 

After completing the Development Coach Online course, coaches must attend a Development Coach Practical workshop. These are hosted by associations and leagues across the state. These face-to-face sessions are an opportunity for coaches to put their learning in to practice under the guidance of a Coach Developer and with self- and peer-assessments.
What you’ll learn:
- Demonstrate effective coaching communication strategies
- Demonstrate effective group management strategies 
- Review the first five steps of the seven steps of skill progression 
- Apply the steps of skill progression within a practical environment/activity 
- Understand, safely teach and apply the principles of the Netball Australia KNEE Program 
- Safely teach, identify and correct technique faults in netball for; – ball handling skills – movement and footwork skills – attacking skills – defending skills – goal shooting /        circle defence skills 
- Create and progress appropriate skills sessions into dynamic situations 
- Create and evaluate simple Game Day team goals and strategies 
- Apply the techniques of basic netball skills into relevant court situations 
- Apply the principles of positional and team play into basic court strategy 
- Employ four of the self-reflection methods to evaluate and improve the quality of coach management, teaching and communication (Player feedback, peer feedback, self-awareness, video analysis, and mentor Coach Developer) 
- Review coach education pathways and update opportunities

Coaches wishing to attend a practical workshop must have first completed the Development Coach online course. 

Netball Australia are currently developing a blended learning model for the Intermediate coach accreditation.

Completion of the Rules of Netball exam is a prerequisite for all coach accreditations. Coaches must pass the 2 hour exam with a minimum pass mark of 70%.

The Netball Australia Safeguarding Children and Young People course is designed to help the netball community understand the rules and processes in place to ensure the netball environment is inclusive and safe for all children and young people playing our great game. This policy assists in creating a safe and positive environment for children and young people by ensuring that everyone understands their rights and responsibilities. 
This course forms part of the mandatory accreditation updating requirements for all coaches, umpires and officials. It is a must complete for anyone is our sport

Netball Australia’s aim is for coaches around Australia at all levels to implement the KNEE Program exercises in all warm-up activities with their players.  It provides instructions and videos of KNEE Program exercises to include in your warm-up at training and on game day – for juniors right through to the elite!

This course is designed for coaches of all levels to upskill their knowledge in Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement strategies specific to netball.  The program provides you with a range of warm-up, strength and flexibility exercises designed to prevent serious knee injuries. The KNEE Program exercises should become a regular part of all of your training and game-day warm-up routines. You will be introduced to the exercises, their structure and purpose.

There are 7 modules available as part of the Australian Sports Commission Essential Skills course. Completing the course contributes points towards your accreditation updating requirements. The modules include:

This course will show you how you can use Netball Australia’s exciting Coaching Our Way – Player Centred coaching learning resource to help you become a high performing coach. Coaches are crucial to the sport of netball, and as you adopt the Netball Australia coach approach, and start using player-centred coaching, you will be contributing towards developing players who are highly engaged in the sport, who take ownership of their learning and improvement, who have self-belief and who love the game

A Coaches Guide course is designed for new coaches, who are just starting and looking for ideas to prepare for a training session. Coaching sessions should always offer opportunities to be varied and interesting to help keep your players focused. The Fundamentals course assists coaches in preparing to teach a skill and gives you a video library of skills and drills to keep your players engaged and having fun.

- How to be prepared to run a training session
- How to teach the basic skills
- How to run a fun training session
- How to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all, no matter their skill level.
- How to teach the key coaching points of each basic skill, including ball handling, footwork, defence, and shooting

- How to teach the key coaching points of each advanced skills
- How to identify and correct common errors in each skill
- How to use a variety of game sense activities throughout your training session

This course will take you through the principles and practices of netball selection. Netball is a team game however the performance of individual athletes and the combination of athletes in playing positions is critical to the success of the team. 

This course is aimed for any netball selector or coach commencing the process of team selection, but anybody is welcome to enrol in the course and learn about the principles and practices that may be used to select netball athletes for a squad or team.

The course looks at:

- The principles of selection
- Guidelines for individual athlete selection
- Guidelines for netball position selection and what to look for in each position
- How to achieve team balance in selection
- Some practical tips to assist in running a selection session

National Umpire Accreditation Courses

This course has been designed to assist you in achieving the necessary skills and knowledge to be an effective umpire and enjoy your officiating role. The Foundation Umpire Course is a pre-requisite for obtaining a National C Badge.

The course looks at:

- Where to now?

The Foundation Umpire Course is a prerequisite to the C badge umpire accreditation and must be completed prior to a practical assessment.

The Rules of Netball exam is a prerequisite for all umpire accreditations (badges). Umpires must complete with a minimum pass mark relevant to the badge level that they are being tested for, or currently hold. These are:
C badge - minimum 70% pass mark
B badge - minimum 80% pass mark
A badge - minimum 90% pass mark

The exam 2 hours in length and contains 100 questions

The Intermediate Umpire Course supports umpires who are transitioning and preparing to be assessed for their National B Badge accreditation.

This course is designed to help umpires become more confident and efficient, equipping them with the skills to take on new challenges while continuing to deliver high-quality umpiring within the community.

Completion of the Intermediate Umpire Course is a pre-requisite for obtaining a National B Badge.
