The 2017 Victorian Netball League (VNL) competition kicks off this Wednesday 26 April.
The VNL is Victoria’s premier netball competition and this season is sure to be a big one, with some new and familiar faces representing each of the clubs.
Netball Victoria, Chief Executive Officer, Rosie King spoke of the quality of the competition
“The Victorian Netball League is an exciting competition and I am looking forward to it kicking off this week,” said King.
“I’d encourage everyone to get along to a game or two this season and see some of the best netball talent the state has to offer, including some very exciting young, emerging stars in action,” said King.
The ten-team competition will be played over 18 rounds at several locations across Melbourne. Round 1 will see all five games played at the State Netball Hockey Centre, where majority of the matches will be played during the season.
With two Melbourne based teams in this year’s Suncorp Super Netball – Australia’s top netball competition – we are pleased to this year align both Melbourne Vixens players and Magpies Netball players to each of the Victorian teams.
Among these alignments are some natural choices, with Vixen, Mwai Kumwenda aligned to Peninsula Waves – the club where she started her netball career in Australia. Magpies star, Ash Brazill has also been aligned to the Waves.
Melbourne Vixen defender, Jo Weston, a former Melbourne University Lightning player and Melbourne University student has been linked to her old club, alongside Magpie Captain, Madi Robinson, who has been aligned to the club for two years previously.
The City West Falcons have four former players aligned to them this season, all of them Vixens, including Captain, Kate Moloney.
