Ending 2022 Competitions
Remember to end your competitions that concluded in 2022! You will still have access to all required data, however this will help to remove communications that are sitting in your users Netball Connect app from months ago!
To end a competition, select the Match Day module -> select 2022 from the year dropdown -> hover over the action button for the competitions that have concluded and select 'end'.
Removing Past Committee Members
Has the makeup of your organisation’s committee members and administrators changed for 2023?
You may need to update the list of those who have access to your organisation’s Netball Connect account.
To do this, select the User module -> hover over Administrators and select Our Organisation -> select the rubbish bin icon for all users that have left your organisation, and no longer require access to sensitive information.

Clearances
The most recent Netball Connect update includes the functionality of clearances. You will find the number of clearances that are available to your organisation for review in the Home module Dashboard page.
If it is common practice for your organisation to use clearances to review player movement, click here to access the processes doc for completing a clearance, and click here to access the clearance checklist.
If clearances have not previously been a part of your organisation’s operations and you do not plan to use them, you can opt to ignore clearances as they populate. Alternatively, you can follow the process doc above to list clearances as ‘not required’.
For any questions, contact your Competition Organiser, Netball Victoria Participation Team Member, or use the ticket system in Netball Connect.
Child Safety
New Netball Australia Child Safeguarding Policy
Netball Victoria has adopted the Netball Australia Child Safeguarding Policy, effective 01/01/2023.
This means that Netball Victoria Affiliates (and their own affiliated organisations) will no longer reference the Netball Victoria Child Safety Policy (2017).

Training sessions will be held on what the changes to the Policy mean in late February/early March. Session availability will be communicated accordingly.
Note that new resources related to the Policy will be updated in the Netball Victoria Child Safeguarding Resource Hub over the coming month.
Code of Conduct – Child Safe Practices
The Netball Australia Child Safeguarding Policy includes the Child Safe Practices as an appendix.
This will replace the Netball Victoria Child Safe Code of Conduct. The Child Safe Practices will be referred to in the same manner that the Netball Victoria Child Safety Code of Conduct previously was. Click here to download the most recent version of the Child Safe Practices.
Fair Play Code
The Fair Play Code is the Victorian Code of Conduct for sport and active recreation. The Code outlines the standards of behaviour that are expected from every person involved in community sport and active recreation in Victoria.

The Volunteer Experience
Sporting volunteers – at any level – are busy. They are faced with multiple competing priorities. They are the givers that keep on giving and are widely recognised as the backbone of sport. They are the engine room that makes game day go ahead.
But with so much on, how good of a job is done to support, retain and recognize volunteers? Can a better job be done? Imagine if there was a way for volunteers to share tips and tricks of the trade with one another, that could then be applied in their own workspace. Even a change so small can still have a massive effect!
VicSport, Regional Sport Victoria and Volunteering Victoria have recognised this gap. Backed by the State Government, they are creating tools and sharing ideas aimed at supporting clubs throughout Victoria to manage their volunteer programs as effectively as possible.
Their aim is to compile short videos with a range of real-life stories about volunteering from Clubs and individuals who are living the experience. These videos will then be shared with other Clubs throughout Victoria, so that they gain the benefit of these tips and ideas.

Insurance
You may be aware that your Association has property insurance with a coverage limit of $20,000 provided under the Netball Australia national insurance program.
This insurance policy was due for renewal on 1 January 2023 and is being held covered until 31 January 2023 while Netball Victoria continues negotiations with your incumbent insurers and several other insurers.
The incumbent insurer (The Barn) has agreed to hold all associations and clubs covered until 31 January 2023 while our broker continues ongoing negotiations. They have however excluded flood and named cyclones (excluding these types of claims has now become normal for group property insurance policies as a result of recent weather events throughout the world).
Our insurance broker is still negotiating with several insurers and will be writing to you shortly with the new property renewal terms.
Please be assured all other insurance policies your association/club enjoy as a member benefit of being affiliated to your state/territory body have been renewed and can be viewed here, along with the new Certificate of Currency.

Netball Victoria has adopted the Netball Australia Member Protection Policy, effective 01/01/2023.

Walking Netball
Walking Netball is a modified version of the traditional game that is fully inclusive, allowing anyone to participate regardless of their age, fitness level, ability or previous experience. The emphasis of the game is on participation, rather than competitiveness and winning.

Pride in Sport Index Survey
Netball Victoria participates in the annual Pride in Sport Index, which is coupled with a survey.
This survey is a national assessment that benchmarks Netball Victoria’s progress in the space of inclusion for individuals with diverse sexualities and genders in sport across the country.
Your feedback will enable Netball Victoria to gauge the visibility of its inclusion initiatives in this space, as well as enabling us to understand the experiences of those with diverse sexuality and/or gender identities as well as those who don’t identify as LGBT+.
The survey takes roughly 15 minutes to complete and survey closes at 9:00am, Monday 13 February.

Single-Use Plastics Ban
Did you know that from 1 February 2023, all problematic single-use plastics will be banned from sale or supply in Victoria? The ban applies to business and organisations including not-for-profits, government, sport clubs and schools.
Single use plastic drinking straws, cutlery, plates and drink stirrers are included in the ban, along with food service items and drink containers made from expanded polystyrene.
Netball Victoria’s Environment Working Group welcomes the move and encourages those affiliates who are running canteens to review some of the environmental practices in their clubs, associations or leagues, to ensure they are complying with the new regulations.
