On Wednesday 7 August, six Bupa VNL teams will step on the courts of the State Netball and Hockey Centre in the last stand before the 2019 Grand Final.
With extra time and history being made at the Semi Finals last week, we anticipate this next round of the finals series to be even more thrilling.
Championship
City West Falcons, who finished top of the ladder, will take on newcomers Casey Demons who finished fourth, sneaking their way into finals.
It was a show-stopping Semi Final match between Falcons and Geelong that saw the two take their rivalry to extra time. There is no doubt Falcons will be on the hunt to come back after just missing out to keep their dream of going back to back alive.
On the other hand, Casey step into this Preliminary Final with a triumphant Semi Final defeat against North East Blaze. They have the drive to make history in their inaugural season in the VNL and big named players to back it up. Could they become the underdogs of 2019?
7pm – City West Falcons vs Casey Demons – Court 1
Division One
Boroondara Express have continued to climb the ranks in 2019 as they knocked Hawks Netball, the Division One reigning Premiers, out of the finals in the Semi Final. Finals seem to be forcing Express to step up their intensity and showcase some skills that haven’t been seen in their play before.
They’ll need those skills when they come up against 2018 Runners Up, Geelong Cougars, who fell short against Blaze last week but are still determined to correct the past and take their Premiers title this year.
Two strong contenders equally inspiring motivations, this will be a match to watch!
7pm – Geelong Cougars vs Boroondara Express – Court 2
19 & Under Female
With a fire burning and an unwavering sense of determination, City West Falcons will look to prove why they finished top of their competition by playing to make their way to the Grand Final. They are a team known to comeback after a loss and with so much on the line we can expect one of their best matches of the year.
It won’t be an easy pass through to the Grand Final if Cougars will have anything to do with it though. Despite their age, Cougars possess versatility and a ferocity that have made them one of the strongest competitors all season. They showcased their perseverance in the Semi Finals and we expect it to shine again.
If they are anything like their Championship teams, it will be a close match between these two down to the very last seconds.
