Deakin University, Official Education Partner of Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens, has made headlines with their School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences topping world rankings for the third time.
Deakin University was named the world's best by the prestigious ShanghaiRankings Global Ranking of Sports Science Schools and Departments, having previously taken out the same award in 2016 and 2017.
Deakin has been a long-standing partner of Netball Australia and the Vixens, working hand in hand to progress the development of our athletes and women in sport.
Over the years the partnership has encouraged and facilitated the growth of professional development, graduate employment, integrated learning and research projects.
Netball Victoria has also welcomed several Deakin University interns through their doors, with many going on to become integral members of the Netball Victoria family.
A number of Vixens athletes have studied at Deakin, including captain Kate Moloney and Australian Diamonds captain Liz Watson. The university’s supportive and flexible approach has made balancing work, life and study easier for our athletes and enabled them to pursue their dreams outside of the sport.
As Official Education Partner of the Vixens and Netball Victoria, Deakin has continued to showcase their progressive nature, innovative technology and commitment to remaining frontrunners in women’s sport.
The partnership has afforded unique opportunities for the Vixens including in-depth statistical analysis from the likes of Dr Aaron Fox, and expert evaluation of Netball Victoria projects like NetGOALS from Dr Helen Brown - we are pleased to see our valued partners recognised for their continued success on the global stage.
Support from Deakin has also provided Netball Victoria and the Vixens with the opportunity to establish many great initiatives such as the Train Like a Vixen program, which encourages up-and-coming netballers to pursue their dreams and enjoy a hands-on session with their idols.
This award is once again a reminder of Deakin’s position as a global leader in sport and the positive impact that the university has on the netball community and beyond.
