With COVID-19 (also known as ‘coronavirus’) still being at the forefront of many people’s minds, Netball Victoria would like to provide you with an update.
The advice from government is that from Monday 16 March, 2020, all non-essential, organised mass gatherings of 500 people or more should be cancelled.
At Netball Victoria we have been assessing our upcoming events scheduled over the next few months to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our entire netball community, and we encourage you to do the same. Many of our Associations and Leagues are already taking proactive measures. Should your competition comprise of 500 or more people gathering at the one time, we would advise you to consider alternative options for the upcoming weeks. There is no timeline on these restrictions, however of course we hope that the sooner Australia can contain and slow the transmission of COVID-19 the sooner our community can return to ‘business as usual’.
The government has assured the nation that these measures are purely precautionary to get ahead of COVID-19 and should not induce panic. Hence, we ask that all members of our community can similarly apply caution yet common sense when reacting to these measures. Containing and slowing the transmission of the virus in Australia is the aim.
Of course, if you are displaying symptoms that are associated with COVID-19 you should self-isolate and seek professional medical advice. Information about self-assessment for your risk of COVID-19 can be found on the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-disease-covid-19.
We will endeavour to keep you updated as new information comes to hand. In the meantime, please continue to look out for each other.
