The VNL is set to celebrate Pride Round this week thanks to RACV. North East Blaze remain the only undefeated team in the competition while in the 19/Under City West Falcons have their hands on top spot. In the Championship division, the Ariels are on the hunt for their first win of the season.
Fixture
Wilson Storage Southern Saints v North East Blaze
City West Falcons v Boroondara Express
Casey Demons v Melbourne University Lightning
Peninsula Waves v Hawks Netball
Ariels v Geelong Cougars.
Championship- Mel Bragg
Mel Bragg is a key cog in the Geelong Cougars midcourt and has played a key role in the Cougars strong season so far. Bragg can play across all three midcourt positions as we’ve seen not only this season in the VNL but at Suncorp Super Netball level in the past. Bragg is a classy operator, who is great on the feed to Julia Woolley, Zanna Woods and Bridgette Furphy. Bragg is also really strong on the second phase and on defensive transition while in the centre. Bragg and the Cougars will be raring to go as they face the Ariels on Wednesday night.
Division 1- Cassandra Grigoriadis
Cassandra Grigoriadis is a key player in defence for the Wilson Storage Southern Saints and while she might not be as tall as some of the goalers she comes up against, her vertical leap is what makes her such a great defender. Grigoriadis has struck up a formidable combination with fellow Saints defender Georgie Whittle which has been on show especially in the last few games for the Saints. Grigoriadis will be on her a-game as the Saints come up against the undefeated North East Blaze.
19/Under- Dee Dee Lambert
Dee Dee Lambert has been a formidable part of the Hawks front line in the 19/Under division. Lambert can play both goal attack and goal shooter which is something we saw at the National Championships back in April. Lambert has strong hands and is able to pull balls down with ease. Lambert has created a strong connection with the attack end for the Hawks which has been built over time. She is accurate when going to post, which will be important when Lambert and the Hawks come up against the defensive end of the Peninsula Waves.
