On Wednesday 20 January, City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz celebrated the commencement of the $18 million Casey Indoor Leisure Centre redevelopment with representatives from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Casey Basketball Association and Casey Netball Association, Daniel Kickert from Melbourne United basketball team and Kate Eddy from the Victoria 19/U netball team and 21/U Australian Netball Squad.
The first sod has been turned on an $18 million redevelopment of the Casey Regional basketball and netball facility at the Casey Indoor Leisure Centre in Cranbourne East.
Casey Indoor Leisure Centre is a popular regional netball and basketball facility, with 337,000 visitors last financial year.
The redevelopment, funded by the City of Casey in partnership with the Victorian Government, will commence in February 2016 and deliver:
- Five new courts, including a premiere show court, bringing the total number of courts to 10
- Spectator seating for 1,500 people
- Multi-purpose/function room
- New foyer/entrance
- Upgraded and additional car parking
- Café / Piazza
- New change rooms and toilets
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz is looking forward to providing additional opportunities for people in the community to participate in sport.
“Today we turn the sod on redevelopment works which demonstrate Council’s ongoing commitment to providing quality facilities for local clubs and the Casey community to engage in sport and physical activity,” said Cr Aziz.
“This redevelopment will provide an additional five courts, including a premiere show court, and visitation is expected to rise to around 780,000 visitors a year once work is complete.”
“The multi-million dollar expansion and redevelopment will not only benefit local residents, but will attract athletes and sporting clubs from across Victoria.”
“It will improve the capacity of our netball and basketball clubs to offer professionally run competitions, and promote sports pathways from beginner to representative levels while attracting and showcasing the highest level of competition in Casey.”
