Play by the Rules – Start to Talk Campaign
Start to Talk is a new Child Safe Sport awareness campaign from Play by the Rules.
Start to Talk is a national campaign which aims to encourage parents and sporting organisations to discuss how they can work together to create a child safe environment.
The campaign features Child Safe Sport resources developed by Sport Integrity Australia.
The campaign was developed in response to recommendations from the Royal Commission which identified sport clubs as having an important role to play in the prevention and detection of abuse. It is based on a European child safety campaign lead by the Council of Europe.

Fair Access Policy Roadmap
Netball Victoria recently attended a workshop conducted by VicSport on “Navigating Fair Access: Sport Sector” where the Fair Access Policy Roadmap was discussed and its impact on our sector. Whilst the majority of the requirements will be upon Councils to implement, it is important that our netball community is aware of the six principles of the Policy:
- Community sports infrastructure and environments are genuinely welcoming, safe and inclusive
- Women and girls can fully participate in all aspects of community sport and active recreation, including as a player, coach, administrator, official, volunteer and spectator
- Women and girls will have equitable access to and use of community sport infrastructure
- Women and girls should be equitably represented in leadership and governance roles
- Encourage and support all user groups who access and use community sport infrastructure to understand, adopt and implement gender equitable access and use practices
- Prioritise access, use and support to all user groups who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to gender equitable access and use of allocated community sport infrastructure
The timeline targets for the implementation of the Fair Access Policy are:
- From 1st July 2024: Victorian Government funding criteria for community sport infrastructure to require gender equitable access and use policies to be in place
- By 1st October 2024: All local governments in Victoria have gender equitable access and use policies in place for community sports infrastructure
- By 1st July 2027: More women and girls report equitable access to community sports infrastructure and improved experiences participating in community sport
NV will also be working with Councils on gender equity for men and boys to ensure that they are also represented and supported when it comes to fair access. For more information, please click on this link, https://changeourgame.vic.gov.au/leadership-centre/fair-access.
STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR ASSOCIATIONS – IT’S A GREAT TIME TO PLAN FOR THE FUTURE
* ONLINE WORKSHOP COMING LATER THIS YEAR *
Our Associations and Leagues are powered by volunteers, and Netball Victoria is here to support our volunteers in their roles.
Aligning with the objectives of the NV’s Affiliate Pivot Program, and as part of Netball Victoria’s shared services network, Nikki Burger, Sports Consultant of Life Sport Journey, has been working closely with NV and our Associations since 2014.
Nikki has worked with Frankston District Netball Association, Waverly District Netball Association, Yarra Netball Association, and Mildura Netball Association, to name a few, helping them prepare for a sustainable and successful future through strategic planning, member insights surveys and policies and procedures packages.
Often asked about the real value of the strategic planning, Nikki’s top-three responses are:
- Supports Associations to articulate their driving purpose and core values.
- Enables Associations to agree the all-important strategic priorities on which to focus their attention and precious time.
- Engages committee members and key stakeholders and brings the netball community along the journey.
Interested in developing a strategic plan and/or other aligned services for your Association?
