Netball Connect
Twins: if you have parents of twins that play in your competitions, there is a really important step for parents to take when registering. As the profiles of the twins are practically identical, the system will offer the parents an opportunity to merge them. To avoid this, ensure that parents are aware that they need to select ‘cancel’, when prompted to ‘claim’ the profiles of the twins. If they do not select ‘cancel’, the profiles will merge, and only one of the twins will be charged Netball Victoria Membership.
Venue Preferences: when creating a draw for your competition that you have manually input your own timeslots for, you may find that timeslots are generating outside of those that you have created. This is most likely due to your Venue preferences. Try the following steps.
Select the Competitions module -> select the competition of interest -> hover your mouse over ‘owned competitions’ and select ‘Venue’ -> change your preference from ‘evenly rotate’ to either of ‘no preference’ or ‘allocate to same timeslots’. Regenerate your draw.
The causation being that your draw is highly restricted when manual time slots have been selected, and you have asked for an even rotation. If the algorithm can’t make a draw within the parameters that you have provided, it will offers these additional timeslots to make your draw work.
Policy for the Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse People
In response to the increasing amount of transgender and gender diverse people playing netball, Netball Victoria have developed a Policy for the Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse People.
This policy has been developed to provide support and guidance to our Affiliates and community to ensure we promote principles of equality and ensure respect and diversity is intrinsic to the netball culture.
Training will be provided to Affiliates to outline the policy, showcase resources that have been developed and answer any questions.
The session will be held online on Thursday 12th of May from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. Click here to register for the link
Child Safety - New Standards
As most of you are aware, on the 1st of July the new Eleven Child Safety Standards will replace Victoria’s current Seven Standards. The new Standards provide greater clarity for organisations on actions required to meet minimum standards. Netball Victoria and its affiliates have over five years’ experience of meeting mandatory Child Safe Standards, and has a well-developed child safety framework already in place. Take Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture, as an example. Many aspects of the new Child Safe Standard 2 are consistent with what organisations are currently required to do under existing Standards 1, 2 and 3.
The major changes from the current Seven to the new Eleven Standards include new requirements:
- to involve families and communities in organisations’ efforts to keep children and young people safe
- for a greater focus on safety for Aboriginal children and young people
- to manage the risk of child abuse in online environments
- for greater clarity on the governance, systems and processes to keep children and young people safe.
To ensure we are compliant with the new Standards during the 12-month transition period we are making adjustments to our child safe policies, procedures and practices, and developing the necessary resources to guide our affiliates. During the month of June training will be delivered to discuss what the new standards are, and simple ways you can start to implement changes. The netball community will need some initial dedicated focus and effort to implement these changes, so follow up training sessions will be provided to assist you in having a more targeted and practical approach to complying with the new standards.
Complying with the Standards already requires organisations to regularly review and revise their systems to ensure that a culture of child safety is maintained. Netball Victoria is committed to the health and wellbeing of all of its members and wants netball to be fun, enjoyable and safe for all involved and is dedicated to providing a safe environment for everyone.
