With the 2023 VNL fixture locked in, we’re taking a look at some of the key players ready to hit the court this season. Some familiar faces have returned while others have switched colours for the year ahead.
Fiona Fowler and Shae Brown are set to pull on the dress for Melbourne University Lightning in season 2023 after missing last year’s campaign. Their addition to the side will provide the Lightning with some added depth and experience through the midcourt and in defence.
After a stunning debut in the navy and red dress, Renae Ingles has signed on with Casey Demons once again for 2023. The midcourter has showed no signs of slowing down with her impressive endurance and star power on show once again.
Likely to pair with powerhouse Sharni Lambden and fellow returnee Tayla Honey through the midcourt, Casey will be eyeing off top spot this year. Honey will be eager to use her strength around circle edge and versatility to have an impact after her year abroad with the London Pulse in 2022.
Winning a premiership with City West Falcons last year, exciting defender Sarah Szczykulski has crossed to Boroondara Express in a change of scenery. Collingwood Magpies training partner Sienna Allen has moved to City West Falcons to join the likes of Zoe Davies and Montana Holmes, and Caitlin Hill has also changed colours, heading to North East Blaze from the Falcons.
Melbourne Vixens Academy member Ashlee Barnett is set to suit up for the Wilson Storage Southern Saints alongside fellow academy member Mia van Wyk. Chosen in the Australian 17/Under side and representing Victoria at the National Netball Championships, van Wyk will be one to watch in 2023 moving into the senior program.
Former Vixen Kaylia Stanton will be lining up for the Hawks again this season with the side eager to climb up the ladder, while youngster Eliza Molino will be a key cog for the side in the 19/Under division.
After making it to the Championship Grand Final last season, the Geelong Cougars will be hoping to go one better under the tutelage of Gerard Murphy.
