Victoria (34) defeated Queensland (3)
The Victorians got off to a good start in their second day of Marie Little Shield, defeating Queensland by 31 goals.
The team faced a strong defensive side, with Queensland not making it easy for Victoria to find their way to circle edge early in the match. Holly O’Sullivan was a star in the midcourt, driving forward and creating space for her goalers.
Marie Little Shield veteran Renay Hall also showed her expertise in the midcourt, snagging some handy deflections and pick ups to keep the ball in the home side’s attacking end.
Game 4
Northern Territory (7) defeated by Victoria (32)
Continuing their winning streak, Victoria claiming a 25-goal win over the Northern Territory.
The team in navy showcased their versatility, with defenders Darcie Delahunty and Jessica McCullogh demonstrating their skills in the ring.
Erin Munckton was also impressive at both ends of the court, her signature single-arm shooting style ever-accurate under the post. Emma Daffy built the pressure in goal defence, and made a dynamic duo with Ashlea Rollason in goal keeper.
Both sides finished the match full of smiles, with plenty of high-fives and hugs to go around once the final buzzer sounded.
Game 5
Victoria (35) defeated Australian Capital Territory (13)
Victoria claimed another emphatic victory over the Australian Capital Territory to cap off a perfect day at Waverley Netball Centre.
Defeating the ACT by 22 goals, the Victorians maintain a perfect record heading into the last day of the tournament and have sealed their spot in Sunday’s grand final match.
Ehlana Wilkson demonstrated her shooting prowess, maintaining her accuracy both directly under the post and from range, while Rachael Potter led her team with enthusiasm and skill.
THE COACH SAYS
Assistant coach Noel Halton is excited for the challenge that awaits the team on the final day.
“I thought today was a great opportunity for the girls to go out and really show the true spirit of the game,” he said.
“I think this year we’re a lot stronger, especially in our defence, so I think it’s going to shape up to be a really tight tussle tomorrow.”
NEXT UP
Victoria will face last year’s champions New South Wales in their final pool match, before playing the grand final against the very same side.
