Netball Victoria 17/U Coach Adam Sloan was awarded his Elite Coaching Accreditation during the National Championships earlier in the month.
It was a reward for many years of hard work for Sloan, who has spent the last 15 years involved coaching netball at different levels.
A former member of the men’s Victorian team, Sloan was elated to earn the second highest level of coaching accreditation in Australia.
“I am elated to receive my Elite Coaching Accreditation,” Sloan said.
“It has been a while in the making and something that I have been working towards for some time.”
His role as Head Coach was his first and he was proud of the team’s performance in Perth.
“It was my first opportunity as a Head Coach and I loved every minute of it, getting the opportunity to take 12 athletes away and help them build and develop their skills was very rewarding,” Sloan said.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for both myself and the athletes, I wanted to create a strong sense of belonging and they did themselves and the state proud.”
Sloan is currently in his second year as Head Coach of South Barwon, who he took to the Grand Final in 2015. Although his team lost the match in the final with 25 seconds to go, many of the squad has gone on to represent the state.
In addition to his roles with the Victorian 17/U and South Barwon teams, Sloan has also been involved as a Pathway Coach regionally for Goulburn and as an assistant in various state programs.
His passion for being involved in elite sport stems from his upbringing. Sloan spent his childhood in the small country town of Stanhope in regional Victoria where sport was a regular family outing.
Having achieved his Elite Coaching Accreditation, Sloan hopes to share his knowledge and experience with younger coaches, while continually looking to build his coaching repertoire.
Sloan plans to stay in Victoria for the coming years and hopes to one day have an opportunity to Coach at ANZ Championship level.
“There are a few people ahead of me now but I would love to get into High Performance coaching in the near future.”
