The development of this plan has been an extensive project over many months, including researching trends in sport participation both nationally and across Victoria, reviewing our existing programs and their delivery and incorporating our netball community’s feedback.
The recent Ausplay reports again highlighted netball’s popularity with over 300,000 people playing our game across the state each year. Our game reaches into every Victorian community, with half of our Netball Victoria’s 110,000+ members living in regional and rural areas.
The need for a regional strategy was identified through the strategic planning process and seeks to meet the needs of the netball community in each of the regions, enabling a consistent level of service and access to programming wherever a member engages with our game. Netball Victoria was delighted to receive a budget commitment of $2.8million over the next four years from the Victorian government.
To achieve our new vision is to reinvest more into our netball community, and Netball Victoria has undergone an organisational restructure which will see more Netball Victoria staff out in the field, offering more access and assistance to Netball Victoria’s affiliates. Funding from the State Government will support four of these fourteen positions.
Netball Victoria CEO Rosie King said the funding will allow Netball Victoria to reach further than we have before.
“We’re thrilled that we are supported in our Regional Strategy by the State Government, which will fund some of our initiatives including more Netball Victoria staff out in the field, allowing more support of our associations and leagues, helping them to grow participation and become stronger and more sustainable,” said King.
“Our focus is to continue to provide safe, compliant courts in our communities as well as more opportunities for people to play the different forms of our game including traditional and social netball.”
Over the past four months, Netball Victoria has reshaped to more effectively meet the demands and deliver on the objectives of the Strategic Plan.
With this, the Netball Participation team is now led by our experienced General Manager Netball Participation, Mel Taylor.
