Facilities Success

The redeveloped State Netball Centre (SNC) in Parkville reopened in July 2021 with 11 indoor netball courts and new major event and spectator facilities. It is now being enjoyed by over 7000 netball participants each week, through competitions, training, programs, tournaments and camps.

Thanks to a $64.6 million investment from the Victorian Government, the SNC is equipped to host major events, offer world-class high performance facilities to elite and pathway teams, and provide our grassroots netball community with a state of the art venue to support and celebrate women's sport.

Netball has been a tenant of the facility in Royal Park for nearly 80 years, and the redevelopment and expansion of the SNC enables us to continue that legacy.

Netball Victoria is proud to play an advocacy role in the Victorian Government's Inner City Netball Program initiative, spearheaded by the late Fiona Richardson.

By building competition compliant netball courts in inner Melbourne, the program is working to address a shortage of netball courts and facilities to support the growing number of people of all genders, particularly women and girls, who seek sporting options in their local communities.

We look forward to continuing to work with Sport and Recreation Victoria, Parks Victoria and Yarra City Council to finalise the last project at Yarra Bend in late 2022.

The Country Football Netball Program has delivered over $35 million in funding to support over 550 projects since its commencement in 2005, providing positive outcomes for communities across regional and rural Victoria and outer metropolitan Melbourne.

We are thrilled to be a part of the joint initiative with Sport and Recreation Victoria, AFL and AFL Victoria, which provides funding for regional football and netball clubs, associations and umpiring organisations to upgrade and develop facilities.

We’ve seen great projects receive the funding they need to support their communities, and we look forward to continuing our work with partners and Councils in rural, regional and outer metropolitan locations to capitalise on this ongoing funding opportunity.

The Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is a state-wide Victorian Government program that provides a range of grant opportunities.

The funding streams vary, but have been instrumental in supporting community and indoor facilities, female and family friendly initiatives, sports lighting and precinct planning.

The Growing Suburbs Fund has been supporting our growing outer suburb communities since 2015. The funding provides critical local infrastructure support and often includes the establishment of major sports and recreation projects.

Since its establishment, the fund has invested more than $425 million into approximately 300 projects, representing a total infrastructure investment of over $1 billion.

Netball has been thrilled to see investment into our growth corridors, where Councils are planning for significant population growth in the next 10-15 years and providing for the needs of communities which include sports and recreation.
