Netball Victoria is excited to announce the state team for the Marie Little Shield.
Ten athletes have been selected in the team that will compete at a national competition, and a further six have been named in the development squad.
Head Coach, Janet Parker, has also selected a Captain for the team, with Renay Hall returning to the position she held in 2014.
Parker said the team are training well and looking forward to the national competition.
“I think the team is coming along nicely,” Parker said.
“We’ve got a nice balance of talent through the midcourt, goals and defence.”
Parker identified many talented players that are part of the team, saying there are plenty of players to keep an eye out for including Anna-Maria Picak and Brooke Baker.
“Annie [Anna] Picak has come on board for the first time with the state team and is showing real potential,” Parker said.
“Brooke Baker is working really hard in the goal circle both as a shooter and a keeper, so she’s working both ends.”
The Marie Little Shield is a national competition for players with intellectual disabilities. The competition provides participating athletes with the opportunity to represent their state at the annual competition.
Parker said the competition is an extremely important part of the netball calendar.
“It’s a pathway; they’ve worked their way up and they’ve got the same opportunities as other elite netballers.”
This year’s competition will be held in Perth from 1-3 September.
