Renay Hall has been selected as Captain of the 2017 Victorian Marie Little Shield team.
Currently playing in the Parkville All Abilities Competition, Hall, 40, will lead the team for the second time.
The Marie Little Shield is a national competition for netballers with an intellectual disability.
Named after Marie Little OAM, former President of the Australian Paralympic Federation and AUSRAPID, the competition gives these players the opportunity to represent their state/territory at a national tournament.
Hall was selected for the honour after displaying exceptional leadership skills, as identified by Head Coach, Jane Parker.
“She’s just got good leadership qualities,” Parker said.
“She is strong, has good ball handling skills and that’s something the players want to emulate
She has been recognised as an excellent role model, someone other players can aspire to, and she has an excellent work ethic.
She is also known and adored for her great sense of humour.
“She has a bit of a joke, but the players look up to her,” Parker said.
Hall has demonstrated her leadership ability previously, captaining the team in the 2014 Marie Little Shield.
Her and Parker, captained/coached the 2014 team to a one goal win over NSW to claim the Shield, and will look to reclaim the title at this year’s competition.
The team will head to Perth for the Marie Little Shield, which will be played from 1-3 September.
