Sunday marked the final day of the National Netball Championships in Darwin, with both Victorian sides vying for a bronze medal in clashes with Western Australia and New South Wales.
17/Under – VIC (25) defeated by WA (33)
Victoria took on Western Australia in their final showdown; a team that had narrowly beaten the girls in navy earlier in the week. It was a tough start for Victoria, with WA running away with an early six-goal lead at the end of the first quarter. Georgie O’Brien put on a clinic in defence, while Teah Wilson continued her good form under the post with 11 goals. But WA kept their momentum and claimed the victory.
19/Under – VIC (36) defeated by NSW (37)
The rivalry between Victoria and New South Wales showed no signs of yielding in the 19/U division. A veritable arm-wrestle of a match, the sides could barely be split come the final term. Lily Graham was MVP for the Vics, supporting her team well with six goals. Although Victoria got the better of NSW in Round 6, it was NSW who managed to snag the bronze medal by just a single goal.
HIGHLIGHTS
There were some stunning matches from the two sides throughout the week, with commanding wins and gutsy performances perfectly showcasing the grit and dedication of our up-and-coming Victorian athletes.

Mia Lavis sank the final goal to ensure Victoria would walk away with at least two points. Her good form continued throughout the tournament, supported by a fierce Teah Wilson in attack. Georgie O’Brien should also be commended for her outstanding defensive work.
The 19/U side faced a tougher road to the finals, but a clean sweep on Day 4 of the tournament saw them clinch a spot in the top four. Their commanding win against the ACT showcased the depth of talent in the team, with all four goalers taking to the court. Lily Graham and Christine Oguche were ever-reliable in the circle throughout the tournament, while Tara Watson showed her prowess in the midcourt.
