Netball Victoria would like to congratulate Janet Parker on being named as a finalist at the 2017 Victorian Disability Awards.
The awards were established in 2011, with the aim of recognising and celebrating people who work with and support people with a disability to achieve their goals.
Parker has been named a finalist in two categories – Excellence in Creating Inclusive Communities, and the Volunteer Award.
The nominations display the large contribution Parker has made to netball in Victoria.
Parker is currently Head Coach of the Victorian state team for athletes with intellectual disabilities, the Marie Little Shield team, a position she has held since 2012.
The Marie Little Shield team competes against other states and territories in Australia at a national tournament, with Parker coaching the team to victory in 2014.
Parker also plays a vital role in her local community.
She had a large impact in the establishment of the Drouin and District Netball Association All Abilities competition, where she continues to coach.
Parker is also coach of the Latrobe Valley All Abilities State Titles team, and coordinated the first All Abilities Interleague match in Gippsland, between Drouin and District Netball Association and Leongatha Netball Association.
Off the court she is involved in upskilling many of her players, with three participants now accredited Foundation Netball Coaches.
Parker’s commitment to developing an inclusive netball community for all is why she has been recognised as a finalist in both categories at the Victorian Disability Awards.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 16 August
