The Victorian 19/U team have claimed back-to-back-to-back premierships at the National Netball Championships, whilst the Victorian 17/U team finished runners-up to a strong South Australian side.
Both teams had a great run up to the finals, with the 17/Us finishing with just one loss in the preliminary rounds, whilst the 19/Us won their matches against all states.
Undefeated through the competition, 19/U defender Sacha McDonald said that this year’s Nationals was her favourite.
“It’s a very intense week but it’s honestly one of the best weeks I’ve been a part of,” McDonald said.
“This year’s Nationals was one of the most special that I’ve had. We had amazing support staff, and it was just so much fun. Coming away with the Championship made it even more special.”
The 2018 Victorian Fury team member was awarded Grand Final MVP for her efforts against a strong attacking line.
“Obviously it’s very humbling to be chosen, but honestly it feels like nothing compared to what you get when you get gold with your best friends.”
The 17/U team also had an outstanding competition, being defeated only by South Australia, who would go on to win the Championship.
It was a close encounter when they met in the rounds, with SA only victorious by two goals, 33-31.
However, when the two teams met in the Grand Final, South Australia claimed a come-from-behind victory to win 40-26.
Netball Victoria would like to congratulate all the players, coaches and support staff for the 17/U and 19/U teams.
