Following the announcement from Netball Australia earlier today that the 2020 Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL) has been cancelled due to difficulties arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, Netball Victoria will continue to focus on athlete development throughout the Netball Victoria pathway in 2020.
With major pathway competitions such as the DUANL and National Netball Championships cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19, Netball Victoria is excited to announce the 2020 Elite Development Squad program. The program will provide development and specialist trainings across two squads, providing opportunities for the state’s most promising athletes to work on their individual development at an elite level, while supporting the Netball Victoria pathway.
The Elite Development program will include athletes from both the 2020 Victorian Fury and 2020 17/U and 19/U Victorian State teams.
2019 and 2020 Victorian Fury Head Coach, Di Honey, and Netball Victoria Pathways Manager, Cathy Fellows, will lead the program, with opportunities for Netball Victoria pathway coaches to also continue their development as well.
“Whilst today’s announcement was obviously disappointing for all the athletes and support staff involved, who have put in so much work already this year, we’re looking forward to be able to continue working with Victoria’s best up-and-coming netballers to technically develop their skills to an elite level,” Honey said.
Invitations will be sent to athletes in the coming week. The Elite Development program aims to commence at the end of June, in line with Victorian Government restrictions.
