Netball Victoria’s Annual General Meeting went ahead as planned yesterday, despite being moved online due to the current regulations in place enforcing social distancing.
Netball Victoria would like to recognise the significant contributions of two long-serving Board Members, Marlene Elliott and Wendy Frost, who notified the Board that they would not stand to be re-elected for another term in 2020.
For Frost, this was her second time serving on the Netball Victoria Board, after previously serving for two years between 2007 and 2009. As a former South Australian representative netballer and 1982 Australian squad member, Wendy’s passion for the growth of the sport has been evident in her coaching background, as well as her administrative endeavours with local clubs and committees.
Elliot joined the Netball Victoria Board in 2013 when appointed to a casual vacancy position, and then was later elected to a three-year term in mid-2014. She has brought extensive experience in strategic planning, project management, stakeholder engagement, business development, marketing and communications over the past seven years.
Netball Victoria President, Richelle McKenzie, thanked the outgoing Board Members for their services, acknowledging the significant contribution they had made to the continual growth of netball in Victoria.
“Both Marlene and Wendy have brought considerable knowledge and expertise to the Victorian netball community during their tenure,” McKenzie said. “On behalf of the Board and the entire netball community, I’d like to thank them for their passion and commitment to the development of Victorian netball over this period of time.”
The departure of Frost and Elliot saw two new Directors elected to the Board; two names synonymous with netball in Carol Cathcart and Kylie Spears.
Cathcart brings a wealth of experience in the sport to the Board, with experience as a player, coach, umpire and administrator. Cathcart currently holds the role of Region General Manager of AFL Central Victoria, and is passionate about ensuring netball’s continual growth at all levels of the game, particularly in an ever-crowded regional sporting market.
Spears has a wide range of experience sitting on various Committees and Boards, and is currently the President of Melbourne East Netball Association; a position she has held since 2010. Spears is passionate about creating further opportunities for the wider community to be active and involved in netball in some way, so that more people can experience a sense of team and camaraderie.
Current Board Member, Gayle Lambert, was also re-elected for another three-year team.
In other proceedings Jane Searle was announced as an inductee into the Netball Victoria Hall of Fame, acknowledging an outstanding netball career both as a player and a coach, that has spanned five decades.
Searle was previously recognised as a ‘Legend’ of the game by Netball Victoria in 2007.
Netball Victoria would like to thank their partner CMS Australasia for assisting with the facilitation and delivery of their AGM online at short notice.
